Learning goals are a set of standards that detail what a child should know and what milestones a child should reach by the time they attain certain age. Educators use learning objectives in different ways to achieve a variety of instructional goals, the concept is closely related to learning progressions, or the purposeful sequencing of academic expectations across multiple developmental stages, ages, or grade levels. 

it is critically important for you to get to know your students, assess their levels of development and set up systems of consistent observation and documentation. Through effective and consistent observation as teachers in the classroom, you will become more and more comfortable looking for the nuances in the development of your students. It is in these small nuances that you will be able to determine if a learning goal has been achieved.
